Tips To Make The Shoes Fit

Friday, December 30th, 2011

So you got the perfect Holiday dress, the perfect accessories to complement it and the seemingly perfect pair of shoes to finish off your outfit. Oops. The shoes won’t fit comfortably. Ouch.

Whether it’s a pair of ballet flats or your coveted rock star wedge boots, there really are times when the perfect shoes won’t just fit. Don’t fret! It doesn’t mean that it’s the end of your love affair with your perfect shoes. Before you throw in the towel on those wedge boots or on your platform pumps, try these “shoe fitting” tips to make your shoe dreams a reality.

1. Prevent friction by using a blister block product. Blisters are especially common with brand new shoes. Or it can also happen with shoes that you haven’t worn for a long time. Got a pair of old wedge boots you want to wear for the office party? Wear it with caution by applying some blister block.

2. Pointy shoes may look great on the outside but it can really hurt you from the inside because your toes get pinched together. For cases like this, use a gel separator. This will help keep your toes from overlapping into one giant and highly uncomfortable toe. You can also use this when wearing other footwear styles with pointy ends like pointy ankle boots or even wedge boots.

3. Include a visit to a cobbler on your to-do list and have them resole slippery soles. Slippery soles are dangerous and it can lead to serious injury. A cobbler can replace them with a more textured rubber. A cobbler can also help you with steaming the heel quadrant of your shoe for those cases when you keep stepping out of the heel.

4. For footwear that cuts into the heels, use a heel liner. It prevents the shoes from digging into your heels.

5. Got sling backs that won’t stay put? Keep them together with adhesive moleskin strips attached inside.

6. This is more like a “beautifying” tip but if you want to add more glam to your wedge boots or to your plain Jane flats, look for shoe clips online. They’re cheap and most of all, they’re super cute.

7. Here’s another shoe beautifying tip: keep shoe fabric looking new by using an old toothbrush to remove dirt and dust.
