Christian Dior’s Porcelain Dolls!

Monday, February 21st, 2011

I have to say that I wait very very anxiously to see what gorgeous costume-like collection Christian Dior will bring forth with their couture lines for the spring. Recalling last year’s garden-state assembly line of beautiful flower gowns, I wondered how Dior would be able to top that show of gorgeous women’s dresses to take our breath away yet again a year later. But as we began to see the array of Dior’s new-age women’s dresses with Galliano’s famous flare, I was not disappointed with not only the line, but the makeup and hair of the models who were transformed from the newest generation of supermodels, to perfectly pristine porcelain figurines waltzing down a dreamy catwalk!

With John Galliano’s dramatic line, he paid tribute to René Gruau, who was the illustrator for Christian Dior in the 40’s and 50’s. His images brought legendary power to the fashion house and have paved the road for Galliano’s work today. The entire collection of women’s dresses had beautiful contrasting shades of a deep red with a charcoal black, or shades of blue tied together with long lines, tulle and feathers.

A trend spotted earlier this year on the streets, and now confirming its stay on the runways, are cutout high heels that are now serving as evening shoes with formal wear too. Whether you’re wearing a dress or a skirt in shades of pastels, try a nude colored pair of heels even if you’re wearing the pinkest of pinks. One of my favorite pieces from Dior’s Spring Couture collection has to be a strapless pink women’s dress adorned with a dramatic bow up top and trails of feathers and flowers flowing down the right side of the gown. Many women choose to wear pink shades with their formal wear, and seeing as how dances and formal events are coming with the upcoming months, it’s time to consider what shoes to strap on to keep you floating around the dancefloor all night. Nude evening shoes are the simplest way to go without throwing off your color scheme but staying looking chic.

For darker colors, a sleek pair of cutout black evening shoes is the way to go. Cutouts that have unique and even a bit of a funky fresh look are the newest edge in black evening shoes. These high heels that almost look like Mary Janes with  a peep toe and thin straps criss crossing your feet give you the perfect pair of heels to accompany you on your night out, but can also be worn to spice up your mid-day outfits too!

Armani’s Spring 2011 Couture Collection

Monday, February 21st, 2011

With Paris debuting all of Europe’s finest Spring Couture Collections on the heels of the Pre-Fall arrivals, Armani Privé brought breathless gasps in the audience as the sultry liquid numbers by the designer brought down the house. With the return of big color, in a bright way, we can look forward to the comeback of gorgeous high heels in classic primary hues that are now forging its way back into the fashion realm.

The Armani fashion show was lined up with super stars all waiting to see what the designer whose shows have always been highly anticipated was going to bring to the fashion platform this season. Sophia Loren, Jodie Foster and Olivia Wilde were all spotted front row taking their own mental notes on the metallic numbers that were said to be inspired by the gleam of a gemstone. Taking that one piece of inspiration, a shimmery collection emerged giving us permission to bring back our cobalt blue high heel pumps and red high heels!

For whatever reason, red has become the new black and we have nothing but good things to say about this vibrant color that has been seen worn in all genres of fashion from head to toe. Fashoinistas and fashion editors have been photographed wearing red structured blazers and tops, to red skirts and red slacks, to red leggings and red high heels. Wearing similar shades of the red up and down have the look of the avant garde fashion that was present in the 80’s and 90’s. Now, with Armani’s Spring Couture collection, we see the colors come to life in a metallic ensemble that is wearable and practical to women too.

My favorite part of this collection that is indeed setting the trend for the futuristic look that has been settling into fashion is the platform and round toe high heels in the primary shades that are strong and sleek simultaneously. When going out on the town or out to a Valentine’s dinner date, pull out your similar high heel pumps that you see in Armani’s fashion show clips and incorporate them into your outfits. You’re no longer limited to just wearing your every day black high heel pumps. It’s all about the color and the wow factor that these shades bring to your outfit. So don’t be scared to make a statement with these sultry shades that will surely bring a new level of sexiness to your outfit guaranteed! We have Armani to thank for that!

A Knock Out in Cut Outs!

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

Before stepping out for your next girls’ night out, consider the saying that less is so much more. We all know that a little bit of skin can go a long way, and when it comes to your high heels, a classy peek-a-boo can be what jazzes it all up!

We’ve all seen the trend of cutouts taking clever bits of clothing out of our favorite dresses and bathing suits. Taking a classy design and carving out the right amount of textile to accentuate the natural curves of a woman’s body doesn’t stop with just our favorite apparel! Designers have united to bring us the next step with our black high heel pumps!

With all the essential parts to make our ultimate pair of black high heels, now imagine sexy little cutouts to reveal the arches of your ankle creating a slender silhouette. On top of that, with leather coming at us from every angle, get your hands on a pair of black leather pants to wear with these cutout high heels! If black on black is a little too serious for you, try a pair of Isabel Marant-inspired red leather or pleather pants that slim down at the ankle to really show off your cutout black high heel pumps!

When you have a deadly combination of sexy black high heels and leather anything as your bottoms, it’s really hard to mess it up when choosing a top to wear with it.

The fun of wearing leather or pleather, is the gates you have now opened to mixing up different types of textures! Meaning, feel free to grab a plush cashmere sweater or a jersey cotton shirt, it doesn’t matter. Because with a pair of leather skinnies and your new cutout high heels, you can go as soft as you want with your top, but the bottom half of you screams punk rock glam!

A Sparkle in Your Shoes

Monday, November 29th, 2010

For the holidays that are coming up, when we see the sparkles glittering all across the malls and through your neighborhoods as the Christmas lights come draping on houses and trees. We must all admit, it is an adolescent admiration we all share that can’t help but bring a sense of warmth and excitement as the holidays near.

An unexpected tinge of holiday that we can bring to our style, is a pair of glitter high heels! Consider with me, the concept of wearing a pair of glitter high heel pumps with your casual winter or fall outfit. One of my favorite French fashion bloggers, Betty, perfects this look with a pair of glitter boots she has.

You can take any pair of black pants or leggings, which nowadays, they are making thicker leggings that double as pants or leggings- which is amazing because it brings us this level of comfort we never thought possible for tight bottoms! Next, grab a white graphic tee- any tee that you love in your closet that’s already probably chalk full of them. Grab a blazer, whether it’s cropped or long, roll up the sleeves to create a more casual hipster look about it, and then top it all off with your glitter high heel pumps!

As Cute As a Bow

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

As Fashion Week in New York has wrapped up with a big bang with CBS’s Fashion’s Night Out, we see the trends that are coming out in the upcoming Spring season!

Now, I know we’re busy enough trying to keep up with the trends of this upcoming Fall. But there is a way to mesh the two worlds together! One theme I see in the Fall and in Spring, is the sweet detail of a bow on clothes and most importantly, on shoes!

For High Heel Pumps, we all have our standard designs with on frills, no details. Our simple shoes are our safeguard against those frightful moments where we’re like, “What shoes am I going to wear with this??” But I am here to open your fashion minds to looking at the new details of the bow on shoes and embrace it as I have.

Bows have found its way onto almost everything this year. Whether it’s on clothes, on clutches, necklaces and bracelets. But the perfect little topper to a gift, has a different look while atop a pair of gorgeous high heels.

Like the perfect gift, you can take any formal outfit you’re wearing, and pair it with evening shoes that has the bow to match! The bow on anything takes an ordinary piece of fashion, and elevates it to a place between cute and formal.
