Although runway shows such as Valentino have shown us a more petite side to women’s shoes in the form of kitten heels and dainty designs, one of my favorite style of shoes that surpasses any seasonal trend has
to be the chunky look of the platform shoes. More prevalent in Europe than the good ‘ol States, the chunky platform shoes come in a variety of styles for anyone woman to dare wearing!
Many may perceive the large platform of a shoe to be overwhelming and painful looking, the cushion the chunky platforms on thigh high boots and women’s ankle boots actually give our feet some loving and give us a big cushion in which to rest our tired soles. In terms of comfort, chunky platform shoes may look alarmingly cartoonish and uncomfortable, but they happen to be one of my favorite pairs of shoes to walk around in. When planning ahead to an all day activity, it’s hard to look fashionable at times when your comfort is at stake. For instance, come time to do an all day shopping spree, you’re not going to grab your fabulous pair of high heels. No, you’re more likely to grab flats or even your sneakers.
But I am telling you now ladies, that the chunky platforms can be your mall guide too! Now since the platform of the shoe is larger than life itself, it’s fun to push the envelope further with wild design and textures too. For example, try a pair of thigh high boots in a
slick animal print with a crazy platform. With any type of busy print, the rest of your outfit should stay relatively calm and simple so your shoes can stand out even more. When wearing thigh high boots, also try to wear a pair of shorts or a skirt to show that sliver of skin between your boots and your clothes.
Another fun option I definitely play with are black ankle boots. Women’s ankle boots are fun in and of itself, but when we mix it up and put a chunky platform to it, they immediately stand out than being more fun and full of personality compared to your average pair of black ankle boots. So have fun with these styles and take risks with your fashion and embrace the new/old trend that’s going to always be on step ahead of the rest.
