TREND ALERT: PEPLUM DRESSES

Tuesday, March 27th, 2012

Peplum has been seen in women’s clothing time and time again. This look is flattering to all body types and transitions easily from day to night. We’re excited to see that Peplum is back in trendy women’s clothes for the SPRING! Peplum, a Greek originating word for tunic, refers to a short over skirt that’s usually attached to a fitted jacket, blouse or dress. The peplum style works to create a narrow waist and hides the tummy, creating an hourglass figure. For women that have a larger bust line the narrow waist works to create a line that balances the bust line and the waist. On the other hand, for women that are narrower and less curvy, the narrow waist line and skirted bottom work together to create a more curvy and feminine look. For women that aren’t necessarily looking to camouflage their tummy areas, but are looking for the feel of a peplum dress you can also explore dresses with flaps that mimic the peplum bottom.

Peplum dresses are super easy to wear, and can be used for a day look or a night look! For your day look let your hair down, throw on your favorite flat sandals, and go! Don’t be afraid to incorporate bright colors for a spring feel. This look is all about showing off those curves so you don’t want to layer too much on top, but we can ALWAYS layer underneath. For those cooler days, or just for a great layered effect, add a solid long sleeve shirt in a contrasting color under a tube top peplum dress. For a bolder look pair your dress with a mesh long sleeve shirt. For my print ladies, you can accomplish this look as well with a printed peplum dress and a solid long sleeve shirt in a complimenting color. Accessorize this look with a chunky and bold statement piece like bangle sets or bold necklace.

For your classic night look, the colors and accessorizing should be simpler. A solid color peplum dress, paired with an updo or classic side swept style, and pumps is perfect for a special night out. This look can be accessorized with a dainty bracelet and small earring choices. This look is great for special occasions and date nights! For a more bold night look try venturing out with a patterned peplum dress. This will add some fun to your night look making it the perfect girls night out or party look!

Pocketful of Fashion!

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

Face it ladies, we all share the same struggles at times, and when it comes to dressing up, there is a labyrinth of issues we’re all dealing with the issue of: where do I put my phone?! The truth is, when designing party dresses, the priority is of creating a cute cheap party dress for you to rock out in, not where your ID, and valuables are supposed to hang. When you’re going sans clutch or purse, we do not have to fret any longer! Why is this? Because now kind and considerate designers have designed party dresses equipped with cute pockets to solve one of the night’s greatest dilemmas! Yay!

I am a firm believer that pocketed cheap party dresses are going to be around to stay. Not only are they adorable, but the function of these little pockets are going to keep so many of us women from wandering around searching for our lost phone or keys.

Not only are these  dresses going to grace the closets of our wardrobes, but they are also finding their way onto the figures of some of Hollywood’s fashionistas. Malin Akerman wore a sweet strapless red dress with little pockets sitting at the hips for a red carpet event. Even if you have no intention of using those pockets, even though I do rave about how fabulous they’d be for convenience’s sake, the detail of the pocket flap and the button to close it adds something special to Malin’s photo-ready look. Pairing a red dress with a pair of nude or gray high heels never hurts either.

Blushworthy Pink!

Thursday, December 16th, 2010

An unlikely color to hit the streets lately has been the feminine shade of pink. Pink is one of those colors that women tend to either love or never wear. Its presence tells the eye that it is woman, and it is here. So if you’re looking for your next short party dress to take you to through your holiday events, think pink!

Although the standard is to try to find your best red, green or gold attire, a refreshing change to the swing of parties and gatherings, may be to try something unexpected. Women’s dresses on the runways showed us that pink is indeed the color of choice amongst some of fashion’s top designers. All the big names in fashion such as Lanvin, Burberry, Victoria Beckham, Mulberry, Jason Wu and Peter Som all pulled out their shades of pink and turned them into fantasy-like short party dresses fit for every woman’s dream night out.

As we take note of the change in tides with blush-worthy pink becoming a hit in fashion, it’s time to go shopping and find your own rendition that suits your own personality perfectly. Even though pink may not be the color you choose to put forward, fashion is about taking risks and expanding your horizon and your choices. Make Me Chic has plenty of women’s dresses in all colors and designs that will be a hit for all your holiday needs.

Pink women’s dresses give us a wide range of shoes to begin pairing them with. What’s so great is given this abundance of choices, you can really change your look and vibe of the dress in accordance with the kind of shoes you choose to wear. It is a given to pull out a fabulous pair of high heel shoes to accompany a dress that is fit for a princess. But consider the direction of your look and think of your options as well.

Bubbly Fun!

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

The beauty of women’s fashion apparel, and being a woman, is being able to continuously move with the changes in fashion. There must be a constant change, an improvement, a twist and turn to the ordinary to give creativity its channels to show itself in clothing and shoes.

In this gateway to creative takes on women’s fashion apparel, one thing is for sure: the bubble effect is to die for! Think with me for a minute. The ordinary women’s dress that is in your closet, will most likely be the type of dress that does not show any mercy as it clings to every curve of your body. Or, you have the flowy dress that you must go to when going out to a hefty dinner. What we women would love, is an in-between. A piece of clothing that still gives us shape, but doesn’t make our shape lost in the materials.

Ask and you shall receive! In came the bubble effect! The bubbly effect is when you take the bottoms of skirts and women’s dresses and give it a little poof action. This allows the rest of your dress to be a little giving, but would look fantastic with a cinched belt. Actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler wore this nude bubble dress to Project Runway’s Fashion Show this past week during New York’s Fashion week. Check out her maroon pointy-toe high heels to complement the light colors of her dress and belt! Fabulous!

Women’s evening dresses can be tricky as most are quite tight and form fitting. They are glorious in its own rights, but in case you’re looking to expand your selection, which is always a smart thing to do for the fashion forward, it is time to invest in the bubble dress.
