Chic in Chanel

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

Karl Lagerfeld brought another surge of color into his world of simple shades and intricate designs with his Fall collection for 2011. Following the trend in women’s clothing, Karl’s marked color that popped out to me, was the fuchsia color we cannot seem to get enough of in women’s clothing.  And who else could bring forth such a fluorescent shade in such a classy way besides the Chanel powerhouse designer?

We are in the midst of a transition in fashion today. The wheels of fashion revolution are spinning and we’re giving ode to the earlier times where instead of women’s dresses, there were suits and long knee-length skirts. This may come as an inconvenience to those accustomed to the shorts and the micro mini skirts, but try to see through the eyes of Chanel’s Fall collection and give a new look to the women’s dress by trying a two piece outfit with a skirt and a blazer.

What I love about his collection may not necessarily be the actual women’s clothing, but the details in how he accessorized the models to bring out the true form of the clothing. The lace covering of the eyes and the fingerless gloves are details that may or may not go unnoticed but you have to appreciate the attention to details to bring a bit of grunge and mystery to a flawless collection.

The dress suits of Lagerfeld’s collection show an impeccable take on the lady-like style of what we now dub as office friendly. The structure of the skirt-like pop of the suit jacket and the clean lines on the skirt make this outfit something to wear on any day out at the office or to a tea party! The over the knee boots in a similar shade to the gloves make this look even more unfamiliar to the typical styling of a suit skirt outfit, that we can now start dusting off our over the knee boots from winter and consider pairing them with a suit skirt duo of our own.

Check out the styles of jackets and blazers on these models and consider how you can take your own blazers and pair them up with a sexy skirt or even a maxi skirt- as we know those are back with a passion. And rather than wearing a pair of high heels or sandals, pull up your over the knee boots for full coverage and a sleek look that even through slits will expose the dark pattern of your boots.

Carine Roitfeld

Friday, January 14th, 2011

The big news that rocked the international world of fashion has been the sudden departure of France’s Vogue’s editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld. While the reason for her resignation remains a piercing mystery, we give homage to one of the world’s most fashionable and avant garde trend setters and envelope pushers the world of fashion has.

In her honor, I must highlight some of her most fabulous looks with some of her most fabulous pairs of shoes she is probably gifted with by the high end designers that she rubs elbows with at fashion shows! As one of the most internationally known fashionable women walking this planet right now, Carine knows how to bring the sexy in gladiator black high heels. Whoever thought that these laced up sandals could make such an imprint in the world of black high heels anyway? But leave it to Carine Roitfeld to smash our way of conventional thinking and lure us into the world of avant-garde-ism and start looking at things a bit differently. Carine wore these gorgeous black high heels with laces going all the way up the front with a complementary banded black skirt with a collared shirt tied playfully at the waist.

But in light of our colder weather, I believe Carine holds the title of always, and I mean always, donning the most chic outfit- no matter what the season is. In true winter form, one day outside a fashion show, Ms. Roitfeld was snapped by photographers wearing a knee length brown coat, buttoned at the waist to accentuate her figure. But to take an ordinary winter outfit and make it into something memorable, Carine wore a fabulous pair of over the knee boots with military-style buttons going all the way up her stems! It’s just that simple to take your plain get up and turn it into a high fashion like trend by putting on a pair of over the knee boots to accompany your winter-wear.

We may not be able to possess the wardrobe and shoe collection of one of fashion’s most lead-worthy women, but we can definitely browse through Make Me Chic’s collection of black over the knee boots to create our own editor chic outfits. A pair of black over the knee boots will fit comfortably over a pair of jeggings, leggings or tights. Skinny jeans are the way to go if you insist on wearing denim, but otherwise, try to stick to thin under garments so the boots will fit comfortably on top. We can all afford a few fashion tips from the head honchos of fashion, and there’s no one better than Ms. Carine Roitfeld herself!

An Edge on the Wedge Boots!

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

The latest height changing addition to our shoes this season, has been the return of the beloved wedge! The shoe gods have blessed us with a shoe so fashionable and comfortable it begs the question as to why this has not dawned on our stylish hearts and minds sooner?

With all we can do with our normal knee high boots, our fashion senses will tingle with the potential that comes when these knee high boots become wedge shoes too!

One of my favorite fashion icons and an old in-house Dolce & Gabbana model turned stylist is Giovanna Battaglia. She truly epitomizes effortless chic and style to me, and has always pushed the newest trends that are yet to be seen by the masses. She is one to keep an eye on when forecasting what’s coming up in the world of fashion.

So it’s no wonder that she has been spotted roaming the streets of Europe in the hottest pairs of wedge shoes. Giovanna has taken the knee high boots that we all love so much, and put the edge in the wedge by adding that extra clunk of material that give these wedge shoes real weight and shape.

We all have our boots with the skinny heels. You know, the ones with the sleek heel to give your winter vibe a little sass. This shoe has always been one of our best friends in the seasons that we need it. But now it’s time to expand your horizons and look after the newest thing to hit the over the knee boots too: the wedge!

My favorite pair of over the knee boots right now, are Make Me Chic’s black suede over the knee wedge boots! These clunky beauties are going to carry me through my coldest winter days but keep me looking good and my little toes comfortable too.

MTV VMA’s!

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

Musicians, actors and all of Hollywood’s pop culture’s big hits flooded the streets of downtown Los Angeles Sunday as MTV’s Video Music Awards was hosted at L.A. Live. I have a healthy appreciation for music and the videos that accompany them, but my eyes were glued to the tube to watch the lovely ladies of the music industry strut down the white carpet Sunday afternoon in their women’s dresses.

All of Fall’s fashion trends were seen and I have to say, the ladies did a great job of choosing beautiful women’s dresses that really incorporated the trends from the runway, and turned them into rockin’ dresses fit for such an awards ceremony.

Actress Emma Stone wowed the photographers with a tight black leather Emilio Pucci dress. Leather has been huge this fall and I predict that we will continue to see leather playing into so much of our fashion. Emma Stone had it right with this black number paired with black high heel shoes.

Miranda Cosgrove wore a tiered navy blue Elise Overland dress with some sparklies on it. Navy blue is one of those colors that really does look great on everyone. It’s a color that’s hard to do wrong, and I’m glad that Miranda choose a simple high heel shoes to pair with this dress. Her natural wavy hair really looks good with this outfit too as she let her dress be what really shines.

A real interesting choice was by Evan Rachel Wood. The actress is the face of Gucci and she is definitely doing her job by wearing a one shoulder animal print dress, paired with black over the knee boots. Even though the temperatures defied this outfit, I think Evan Rachel Wood braved the L.A. heat and brought out Fall’s fashion even though the city did not agree just yet. Black over the knee boots are a must-have for the upcoming season. Whether you wear it with tights, jeans or like Evan, a hot animal print dress, these boots will always be a big yes!

Last but not least, we have to highlight Lady Gaga! Not only did she win video of the year, (did you see her in tears as she gave her acceptance speech?) but she really did live up to her expectations with this outrageous gown by the late Alexander McQueen. I like how she wears a feather headpiece like it’s not completely outrageous.

At the VMA’s, the stars left the drama out and let the fashion in. I think we have had better years, but I do appreciate the tributes to fall fashion that we saw in some of our favorite Hollywood starlets.

How to Wear the Top Winter Women’s Boots Trends of 2009

Monday, January 25th, 2010

In the following months, temperatures will continue to drop. One thing that a woman can do to make it through the cold season is to look smoking hot. Even if one is all bundled up and covered in thick fleece-lined winter coats, it is never a reason to look unfashionable. The perfect way to spice up the outfit is putting on women’s boots that are said to be winter’s top fashion picks.
