Expert Fashion: All About Boots

Monday, November 21st, 2011

What’s your favorite fashion season? Fall? Spring? Winter? Summer? Or boots season?

Boots—whether its ankle boots, wedge boots or knee-high boots—are so fun and easy to wear, it may feel like you can wear them all the time with anything. Well, don’t get too excited just yet. Wearing boots with anything may just spell fashion danger in an instant!

Read on before you attract unwanted attention from the fashion police.

Celebrity stylist Cristina Ehrlich has expert tips for wearing boots and she talks about it in an article for CBS News Entertainment. We got it all down for you so read on before you get in on that pair of ankle boots and be fashionably enlightened.

1. “If your eye goes straight to the foot, then something isn’t right.” Ehrlich says the goal when wearing boots is to go for the “full look.”

2. “It’s all about lines.” Make sure the hemline does not meet the top of your ankle boots or wedge boots, or whatever pair of boots you are wearing, says Jen Ford who is fashion news director at Lucky Magazine.

3. Wedge boots win the award for versatility. You can wear it on different places and climates. And you don’t have to be stuck in just the classic black. You can even don a pair in warmer climates.

4. Expand your boots horizons. There is more to boots that just ankle boots, wedge boots and knee-high boots. For that illusion of a longer leg, get in on a pair of workhorse boots. They’re a couple of inches shorter than the knee, more like mid-calf boots. Wear them with tights of the same color to achieve the longer leg effect. Add some playfulness to it by going for a laced up style and wearing boots with a little bit of heel. This works for pencil skirts, longer lengths and even some mini skirts.

5. But for to-the-knee skirts, only a trusted pair of ankle boots will do. If you feel like going for the bohemian look, pair your ankle boots with a maxi skirt.

Ehrlich reminds women that finding the right pair of ankle boots, workhorse boots, wedge boots or knee-high boots is a trial and error process. But when you do find the pair that matches you, it’s going to be worth it.

Simply & Sexy Suits!

Monday, March 28th, 2011

During the Fall fashion season, we saw the tailored suit look dominating the runways of women’s apparel and filtering itself onto the streets. Suits are hardly a new look for women, and have been an iconic look for strength and professionalism. It’s safe to say, that every workingwoman has a fitted suit that takes your look in women’s apparel from personal to professional in a transformation made solely of blazers and pants.

So I was incredibly excited to see the comeback of that look with a modern summer twist to it for our warmer weather conditions with the style of blazers and shorts! We have become very used to seeing the typical pair of pants that are either straight legged or flared, pressed or linen, paired with a fitted blazer to match. But the newest trend we spotted, is the casual and comfortable expression made with a pair of shorts with the matching blazer atop.

One of my drool-worthy outfits I spotted was a pair of denim shorts with a light linen looking denim faded blazer that matched perfectly on top. The fashionista who put this look together wore a loose white t-shirt and a pair of roughed up sneakers to make it effortlessly chic but approachable. We can learn from this simple style and modify it to suit our own taste and play it up with a pair of high heels or knee high boots to cover up some leg in cooler weather.

When it comes to boots, fashionable women all over the world have quite a number of options to choose from. One of the most popular today are ankle boots. Boots have gone from an “either-love-it-or-hate-it” footwear to a now certified must-have. Ankle boots are seen as a staple among many celebrities and you will hardly find any shoe store—whether online or offline—that is not carrying this trendy footwear. Ankle boots, in itself, have different kinds and subcategories within its styles. There are flat ankle boots, high heeled ankle boots and gladiator sandal ankle boots, among many others. Now, let us walk you through some of the other types of women’s boots and see how they differ from ankle boots.

1. Booties. Booties are generally distinguished by its shorter length in comparison to ankle boots. Its look is a combination of a shoe and a boot. Oftentimes, booties have a peep toe or cut out sections.

2. Mid calf boots. Like booties, mid calf boots are distinguished by its longer length as compared to ankle boots. And like ankle boots, mid calf boots are best worn with figure hugging jeans and shorter dresses and skirts.

3. Knee high boots. While there is no need to state the obvious difference between ankle boots and knee high boots, here is something that you probably didn’t know about these two kinds of boots—when it comes to choosing which one to wear with skirts, choose knee high boots for short (but not super short and tight) and mid-calf A-line skirts. Ankle boots can be worn with short skirts too, but it can be a little tricky, depending on the length of your skirt and the shape of your legs. However, when it comes to pants, any of these two types of boots will do.
