Jessica Dazzles in Sequins and Gold!

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

These days, the stars hitting their movie premiers are shutting it down! First with Drew nailing it wherever she’s at, and now Jessica Alba!

Jessica Alba often receives mixed reviews from fashion critiques and has had her days of glory and her days of questionable glances while walking down the red carpet. But at this week’s premiere of her new movie Machete, Jessica Alba brings all critics to a silence while strutting her stuff in a gold and black sequined Balmain dress at L.A.’s movie premiere event.

I imagine that stars often scramble to have their stylists choose an array of women’s dresses to make them stand out. After Balmain’s fantastic Fall 2010 show, the gold dresses they debuted have been peeking out all over magazines and the red carpet.

Fashion designers have taken notice of the recent trend in the gold and sequins, and followed suit with an endless supply of fashionable women’s dresses that still shine just as bright as the beautiful Balmain line itself.

The fun zigzag pattern on the dress that Alba wears gives her the edge to go to a more funky and fun style of high heel to wear to match. The obvious and most complementary color to wear with such a bright and cool dress would be black high heels. But rather than wearing closed toe black high heels, which still would have been fabulous with that dress, Jessica Alba chose to wear a strappy number with a peep toe that gives your feet enough air to breathe and keeps you at least a couple degrees cooler in this sweltering Los Angeles heat.

Also, an interesting take on this whole look, whether Alba or her stylist was the one responsible for it, the lines of the high heels and the lines on the Balmain dress do not cross in the same way, but yet, they do somehow form a knowing partnership to tie in the look together. Again, not everything needs to be so matchy-matchy, so don’t abstain from grabbing your strappy shoes when wearing a busy number.

Blazing in White!

Friday, August 27th, 2010

A staple piece in your wardrobe, despite what season it is, is a well-fitted blazer. This masculine jacket that has now crossed the lines of gender, and landed squarely and securely in the hands of fashionable and professional women, is the piece of women’s fashion apparel that truly holds its own weight and importance in plain view.

In any case, when piecing together your outfit for the day or event, you must always take into consideration how you’re going to pair up with your clothing with your women’s shoes. Whenever I see the white blazer on women, the classiest women’s shoe that I see that pair so perfectly with the white blazer, are a pair of black high heel pumps.

Whenever women wear the color white, it is important not to be too matchy with the bleached color. The starkness of the white blazer is what eyes will naturally be drawn to. To keep the focus on the blazer, and to allow the rest of your outfit to balance out the bold white, you must look for simpler, quieter tones in the color spectrum.

This is what is so delightful about getting dressed up! The palate your closet offers you is the mix and matching game of your own personal style. Your choices with women’s fashion apparel are endless! However, the colors that most fashionistas are drawn to wearing under the white blazer, are shades of black and gray. Mix that with your favorite slacks, denim, or skirt, and you’re ready to go.

If you want to mix it up and pair your white blazer with something other than a solid top, patterns and vintage tees are different and definitely give the white blazer a more funky vibe to it.

Accessories are also key, such as the perfect belt. Most tops underneath a blazer are tucked in, either pristinely or loosely. The belt will most likely be peeking through the open flaps of your blazer, so loop on your favorite belt that will accentuate your curves and your own style.

Drew Barrymore Promotes Going the Distance

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

For Drew Barrymore’s new romantic comedy film, Going the Distance, a film about the trials and tribulations of long distance relationships, Barrymore has been hitting the red carpet and appearing on T.V. shows to promote her new film.

In light of the season, and the trends that are seeping in to the Fall and trailing at the end of the summer, Drew has definitely taken note to what to wear and has styled her outfits perfectly! Whether she’s out in Hollywood, or jet setting to the east coast, evening shoes are what must be gracing her feet as she runs from place to place.

In my two favorite outfits thus far, we must highlight the fact that Drew has embraced the gray high heel pumps. Of all platform heels to match with her gowns, Drew has chosen the gray high heel pumps that do go with whatever texture or pattern she has chosen to wear.

At Hollywood’s premiere of the film, Drew wore a strapless Malandrino gown with animal print and camouflage pattern on a silhouette gown that is curve hugging and flattering with its wispy tapering at the bottom. To contrast the delicate fabric of the gown, Drew paired the dress with a thick leather belt with chunky gold accents to create a bulky look that makes the gown more rock ‘n’ roll.

On the runways this Fall, we have seen a lot of pattern, metallic and glamour fit for red carpet affairs. While stars have chosen to manifest those looks onto the red carpet, they have taken a life of its own with the evening shoes that contrast uniquely to the apparel they fit with.

Outside the Letterman Show, Drew shows off her love for her gray platform heels with the fantastic ensemble of a bronze sequined top, paired with black harem pants and the gray high heels. The pleated waistband at the top of the harem pants are a sweet detail to the outfit.

Drew is now being carefully observed by fashion bloggers and style experts alike as she keeps bringing her eccentric style to the table. Although we may not be a Hollywood superstar, we can still take tips from Drew’s effortlessly chic outfits and incorporate the pieces we adore into our own outfits as well.

Gray was heralded as one of the must-have colors of Fall, and this is living proof that we will be seeing the soft and neutral color of gray everywhere, combined with colors and textures of next to anything.

Walking in Rachel Bilson’s Shoes

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

In the world of fashion, actress Rachel Bilson has been highlighted as being a trend-setting fashionista whose original style is now being emulated by women worldwide.

I definitely keep my eye out whenever Rachel hits the streets as paparazzi is all over her situation. But what is more exciting to watch, is how Rachel styles herself for formal events she attends. I don’t think I have ever seen her trip up on an outfit, as her style always exudes cool and natural. There are those who are snapped by photogs that do seem like they’re trying too hard. I’m sure you can think of some off the top of your head. But Rachel is always a class act, and more so than anything, I am definitely in fine admiration of her shoe collection.

Three of my favorite looks from Rachel come from various non-red carpet events. The gown and high heel is assumed at those events. I appreciate the more creative end of Rachel’s style when she can go casual chic.

Teen Choice Awards!

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Heartthrobs and hotties all came out this weekend to Fox’s 2010 Teen Choice Awards! While TV stars, singers and actors graced the red carpet, all eyes were on the fashion behind each smiling celebrities’ summer sizzling look.

As always, the women’s fashion clothing came out to play in fun Hollywood form. This year’s favorites have to be in this following order:

Well-known fashionista and Disney superstar Selena Gomez wore a goddess-like white BCBG Max Azria dress with gaping wide open sleeves to create a dramatic drape around her shoulders and arms. If ever there were a more appropriate time of the year to don a white women’s dress, it would have to be now. As summer is in its peak, white women’s dresses look fresh and crisp even on the hottest summer day. Mixed with Selena’s tousled hair and her strappy gold high heels, Selena wins the fashion award for the night.

For all you Twi-hards, Ashley Greene made her mark Sunday night in a blush mini dress by Valentino with black floral accents and layers of lace on the upper bodice. Paired with simple black peep toe high heels, Ashley’s sweet and simple statement was quite delightful. It’s still somewhat different to see her on the red carpet with a full on tan, but the shades of her dress bring out her summer glow.

Although the Teen Choice Awards still rolls out the carpet for celebrities, I like how the stars have the clothes of formality, but keep their hair and accessories to a minimum to maintain the young and low key vibe of the Teen Choice Awards. With many stars who chose to come in their casual gear, you can’t help but appreciate the celebrities who bring out the best of women’s fashion clothing at any given opportunity.
