Roaring Paws!

Monday, December 12th, 2011

Although the season for flip flops and women’s sandals have passed, it’s not only about high heels and 4-inch stilettos during the colder seasons. We can still rock our casual pairs of women’s shoes in the form of cute patterned flats to go with our weekend outfits. I have not always loved the look of flats on a woman- I’m more of a heel girl myself, but I would never hesitate to pull out a pair of leopard print ballet flats to add some spunk in my step!

Women’s flats are actually the greatest shoes in terms of comfort. However, as we all know, when we try to go for comfort, we sometimes end up compromising fashion as well. With animal print women’s flats, there is nothing we can’t have! Fashion with function is the genius behind wearable fashion. And when it comes to animal print flats, it opens doors upon doors of pretty possibilities!

One of my favorite and quiet fashion icons of our generation is designer and socialite Nicky Hilton. With her own line doing well in department stores, this Hilton sister has it all! She even has the most amazing outfits in her street fashion too- very jelly! On one summer day, Nicky was photographed in a very casual straw fedora with a blank tank top and cropped denim shorts. The typical go-to pair of shoes might be to wear this easy breezy outfit with a pair of summer sandals. But she decided to take the higher route and pulled out her leopard print ballet flats to top it all off. (more…)

Spiffy Suspenders!

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011

Do you ever have one of those nights where you just want to chuck your typical style out the window and just do something different? We all know what to expect when we’re going for a girl’s night out, so how about standing out in the crowd with something different and unique with women’s clothing! For an event that will require some extra pizzazz, try a pair of suspenders to throw on a casual chic outfit, and you’ve got it made!

Okay, suspenders have the masculine connotation and we do the word association game with suspenders and a business man walking to his corner office. But no! The power of women’s clothing and women’s clothing accessories in particular, is its ability to transform even an office tool into something sexy and fashionable! The key to it is the effortless way this simple piece of women’s clothing accessory can magically turn a pair of pants and a collared shirt into a retro feminine elegance that possesses power and attitude as well.

With an outfit that can pack a punch, suspenders are the way to go. When you have the green light multiple times on the red carpet, trust that you can imitate this outfit too in the private fashion show you regularly hold in your bedroom. For a red carpet event, one of Hollywood’s elite, Cameron Diaz, sported a pre-Labor Day white on white ensemble with a pair of white denim skinnies and a simple white cotton tank top as well. To attach the outfit in one, she wore a pair of gray skinny suspenders to bring singularity in the message she was sending out to the paparazzi that night! (more…)

Pink Daisies

Friday, November 18th, 2011

When we look at the colors that seem to permeate our fashion eyes, we see an odd wave of pastels and jewel-tones this season but we can all note that pink has made its presence in a very blush-worthy way this year thus far. Whether it was on a pair of flats or on an evening gown, pink has been one of the hottest colors in women’s apparel and it’s not about to stop now.

Even though summer has made its way back into hibernation, one of the most noted pieces that we saw all over the streets and beaches was a pair of pink denim shorts. But not a magenta or hot pink shade, but a light pink shade that’s just light enough to imitate a carnation and enough to pair it up wildly with any kind of grunge or rocker glam pieces to give you a Euro-chic look that’s fit for even the coldest of winters.

Although shorts are a staple piece of summer in women’s apparel, it doesn’t mean we need to tuck them away anytime soon. With the comeback of tights and sheer leggings, the doors have been opened for options galore with the pairings we can make being limitless! One of my favorite looks I’ve seen regularly this season with a pair of pink denim shorts has been to pair it up with a chunky gray sweater and some women’s boots. It’s a very Isabel Marant style with the color being balanced by the dark shades. (more…)

Madly in Love with Maroon

Friday, November 4th, 2011

In a sort of gothic romantic twist of fate, fashion has since embraced the beauty and tragic tones of maroon to mix and match with some of our easiest to wear shades and styles. Although it’s not as prevalent along the street-fashion-friendly, women’s clothing has been slowly creeping out with beautiful rich shades of maroon that bring you that perfect hint that the colder seasons are just around the corner and it’s time to start shuffling through your wardrobe for those perfect jewel-toned accent pieces to your women’s clothing to make your fashion forward senses come into full motion.

Maroon is one of those colors that you can’t help but notice, but doesn’t scream out the way the bold colors have been for the past two seasons and on. Trust me, I love the loud statements that primary colors create just by throwing it over your shoulder, but at the same time, one can really appreciate the quiet demeanor of such a color like maroon and through its peaceful personality, and yes, I am a firm believer that colors have feelings too, we can really appreciate the maroon in all its shapes and forms it now comes in.

Lately, I’ve seen the shades of maroon on everything from high heels to blazers. One of my most abused and used pieces of clothing has to be my black blazer. Seriously, you could be wearing a very last-minute throw together outfit but put on a crisply tailored black blazer on top, and it all magically looks chic somehow! So imagine the wow factor that now comes into play with it not being black anymore, but instead a fantastic shade of royal maroon! Even paired with a magnificent pair of boy shorts, the maroon blazer makes it all look chic and glam! Now with a pair of black flats or a pair of black ankle boots and even a very casual black t-shirt underneath, you have yourself one of the most comfortable outfits that are both function and fashion in one. Even though the flats are uber casual, when you pair it with a fabulous maroon blazer, you’ll take your look from casual to chic.

One of my most highly anticipated pieces of women’s clothing for the winter season has to be a maroon winter coat. Pair that with a green skirt and orange sweater for classic color blocking, and you have your quintessential outfit that’s perfect for Fall and Winter.  Pair it with a sleek set of high heels and some colored tights underneath and you’re all set to go out on the town for a fun day out!

Oscar’s Fresh Spring Picks!

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011

After 40+ years in the fashion industry, Oscar de la Renta is still one of my top 3 designers I eagerly await to unveil his collection for each runway show. With stars like fellow designer Valentino, Justin Timberlake, and Nikki Minaj sitting front row, Oscar matched the eclectic mix of celebrities in his crowd with an upbeat soundtrack to Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin as his top tier models strutted down the narrow runway to give the audience, both in person and us what we’ve been waiting to see for this Spring!

Although we’re used to seeing Oscar’s sleeveless women’s dresses and tweed skirt suits, he did not disappoint us by breathing in some fresh air and taking us on a detour into a world of silk taffeta ball gowns in this glorious green color and as all runway shows have signaled to us, how white is the must-have, Oscar de la Renta stayed true to his reign as one of the most detailed and delicate designers of women’s dresses with an array of white lace and meticulously sewn dresses with all the right shoes to match.

I can rave on and on about the beauty of Oscar’s gowns but I think we can all agree that the collections he churns out year after year do not even come close to disappointing. In fact, I anticipate his direction every season to see how I can incorporate his vision into a wardrobe of my own. Unfortunately, I cannot go out and purchase his collection off the runway, but what we can do, is take what he has shown us and create something unique for ourselves!

When Oscar debuted his collection of white lace detailed dresses, I was excited to see that he paired such a petite and feminine dress with a pair of black women’s sandals that were strappy and adorned with buckles. It’s a typical look to put white lace with nude pumps, but Oscar does not roll with the tide. So try that for yourself too! Try a pair of sassy women’s sandals with something delicate looking to even out the textures and play with your looks.

But the look I adored the most has to be the splash of color and the in-your-face texture of Oscar’s silk taffeta ball gowns in bright hues to awaken your senses and bring you back to life! I especially love how he took such a formal attire and played it up with colors and balanced it out with casual lace designs on top and finishes with what else: flats! But not just any flats, but a pair of golden glittery flats! How fun! This gives us a reason to shuffle through our shoe collections or begin shopping away as fashion and funk come hand in hand with the elegance and innovative fashion that Oscar de la Renta continues to bring us.
