We’ve seen it all. All the trends and accents that are starting to saturat
e the fashion industry have arrived and flourished into all areas of women’s apparel. We can’t hate on that because whether we even are actively aware of it or not, we are wearing bits and pieces of the latest runway fashion that has trickled down into even some of our every day outfits. Tricky, eh? For instance, feathers have been one of the biggest things to hit women’s apparel since polka dots and sequins. Today, we see feathers flocking all over women’s dresses, skirts, and now I see it all over hair. Yes, hair.
The trick of this whole trend factor is to be able to spot a good one and when you do, it sticks around and then some. As we’ve been watching the runway shows with all of the world’s hottest designers putting their best foot forward, it’s interesting to see who really takes the bull of the fashion industry by its horns and owns each and every piece of women’s apparel that gets put out there.
One of my favorite long time standing designers in house is Marchesa. Known for their women’s dresses ranking in the top tier of fashion’s dresses elite, Marchesa brought the house down with their Spring 2012 collection with the finest details of today’s hottest trends mixed with their signature eye to detail. Marchesa took a different route this season in having a runway show with models actually taking a walk down the runway, as opposed to their typical models standing on a raised platform like statues being oo’d and ahh’d over.
Although critics are not saying much about the uniqueness of the wo
men’s dresses, I took notice in the simple silver and gold evening shoes that held the perfectly pedicured toes of the models to match the elegance of the women’s dresses which I believe brought back a simplicity to an era where women wore flapper dresses and headbands as a regular outfit to go at night. Yes, shoes can make or break an outfit, and in terms of Marchesa’s line, we see a vintage-y feel when they brought out their shimmery tones of gold and silver evening shoes to embody the essence of a truly rich dress with gold fringe or feathery tulle.
Speaking of tulle, before we bid adieu to Marchesa’s collection for the Spring of 2012, let’s pay homage to my favorite number they rolled out at the end of their show. Lavender is always a tricky color to play with due to its fragility and sensitivity to looking too over-done. But Marchesa made the finest women’s dress with this combination of crunchy lavender with soft tulle all wrapped around each other and swathed around the figure of the model to create a dress that I know for a fact will be seen again in magazine spreads or even the red carpet. Probably both!
