GLAAD Media Awards Looks

Monday, March 26th, 2012

Many celebrities were spotted this weekend in New York attending the GLAAD media awards. While we’ve recently been falling in love with color blocking, many opted for solid spring colors for the event and allowed textures to take over. Lala Vazquez took to the red carpet in a soft red dress with an alternating srtipe print that accented her curves perfectly. She complimented this effortless look with a nude pump and a color blocked clutch.

Dakota Fanning was also in attendance of the awards wearing a crème dress with gold accented tribal print design. Dakota accessorized her look with a gold bangle, gold sandals, and a gold clutch. Her look was a modern take on the classic wrap draping.

Writer, Janet Mock, was also a part of the solid dress wearers. Her Blue number not only alternated in shades, but also in pattern. I would definitely give her the best dressed award for the evening. With the diagonal stripes and sheer sections complimenting her shape, tied together with a silver clutch, and royal blue mary janes, this look is hands down the winner.

GLAAD, Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation , has worked with the news, entertainment, and social media for over 25 years to bring culture changing stories of LGBT people into millions of homes and work places every day. The GLAAD Media awards recognize and honor various branches of the media for their oustanding representations of the LGBT community and the issues that affect their lives.  It was great to see these celebrities putting a fashionable foot forward to support the cause!

Lengthy & Lovely Limbs!

Tuesday, September 27th, 2011

In light of all the award shows that have been streaming lately, we have to take a time out and highlight a trend that has been around for a little bit that I feel has been unnoticed by most. The genius designers who have taken into mind to do something different and more mod with women’s dresses have done us all a favor by bringing to our hangers a new kind of gown: long sleeved!

Now before we jump the gun and judge these gowns for its coverage, we have to also note, that the elegance and quiet statement that a long sleeved women’s dress makes is beautifully balanced by the cut of the dress that also amount to a sexy split boasting your pretty stems. Sometimes, when there are so many obvious qualities of a dress going on, it’s not so fun anymore. That’s how I can appreciate the evolution of women’s apparel and its constant drive for something more.

Who better than fashionistas Vanessa Hudgens and America’s sweetheart Rachel McAdams to bring this new tide in women’s apparel coming our way with their gowns donning a long sleeve! Whether you’re going out in the day time or night time, a long sleeved dress is such a new yet vintage twist on a women’s dress, and it’s definitely an excellent way to keep your silhouette uniform and gorgeously enwrapped in the luxurious material of your dress. The arms can symbolize so much about a women but either a snug fit that goes all the way down to your wrists, a loose Bohemian style billowing of material or a classy three-quarters sleeve, a sleeve is no longer a thing to shun away from a dress style. Emmy’s Golden Beauties

Friday, September 23rd, 2011

With ratings being at an all time low for many award shows, this year’s Emmy’s brought back the glory of Hollywood and a deeper appreciation for great television and its stars that make the shows we love and the ones we definitely cannot live without! Although the awards, the performances, skits and jokes are all the rage, I of course cannot deny that my eyes search the screen for who is wearing what!

Almost challenging the awe of Oscar fashion, this year’s Emmy fashion favorites gave me an appreciation for simplicity and color just in time as New York Fashion Week has ended and the barrage of photographs and runway fashion will now flourish into our stores and into our closets.

Jumping right into the action is the lovely Kate Winslet who I swear does not ever age. I don’t know how they do it! Kate wore a gorgeous red women’s evening dress by one of my favorite designers Elie Saab. Most women’s dresses these days are very provocative and even the most elegant of women’s fashion clothing seems to bare more skin than ever before. We can thank Kate for keeping things classy on the red carpet (that really matches the color of her gown).

The most important part of any women’s dress has to be the cut. Even if the design, pattern and colors are vibrant, if the cut doesn’t accentuate what needs to be, it can be one of the greatest tragedies of women’s fashion clothing. Thank goodness Kate knows what she’s doing. Her simple design hugs her upper body like a mold and has a low v-neck allowing for some skin, but not too much. Even wearing a sleeved dress, whether it’s shoulder capped or long sleeved shows elegance in a women’s evening dress.

My other favorite women’s dress has to be worn by Vampire Diary’s Nina Dobrev. Although I didn’t mean to highlight the ruby red gowns of the evening, we have to give credit where credit is due. And we cannot deny the crunchy sweetness of Nina’s custom made Donna Karan gown with a train and bodice that makes us all wish we had a legitimate reason (or maybe not so legitimate) to squeeze into this gorgeous gown for a night out with celebrities.

But the hats all go off to Sofia Vergara in a coral custom Vera Wang women’s evening dress that almost made her unrecognizable! With emerald earrings to contrast against the tropical shade that really did its job in keeping Sofia’s shapely body nice and tight, this gown is gorgeous for many reasons, but moreso because of the lovely actress wearing it! So here we have it! Our 3 favorite gowns of the evening to some of Hollywood’s favorite leading ladies and some of our new stars on the horizon. Keep the haute fashion coming!

MTV VMA’s Fashion Favorites!

Monday, September 19th, 2011

Sunday night’s showstopper was not the typical outrageous scene-stealing performances by wild artists like Lady Gaga or Britney, but all of this was overshadowed by the big announcement made by one of the biggest stars: Beyonce! Even a cross-dressing Lady Gaga couldn’t out-do the big news that Beyonce is pregnant!

With all stars applauding and the entire pop society supporting her, Beyonce stepped out at one of the biggest awards ceremonies in a gorgeous orange Lanvin women’s evening dress to make such an announcement. And of course, Beyonce would not be a diva unless she made her announcement in suave style!

Colors are popping out everywhere with minimalistic details and sharp seams and fine lines. This Lanvin women’s dress Beyonce wore to the VMA’s shows us that we are to expect a barrage of similar looking gowns and dresses with chic and sleek draping and flowy movements. From short women’s dresses, to long elegant women’s evening dresses, solid colors with geometrical lines are what you need to keep your eyes peeled for!

Another thing to note is that when you are keeping things sweet and simple with your look, make sure your women’s accessories coincide with that thought process. Just because your gown is just one shade and tucked and sewn into an immaculate design, this doesn’t mean that you need to over-do it with the women’s accessories to keep things glamorous. Simplicity in style is all it takes and that hints at keeping your jewelry to a minimum or to small statement pieces that don’t overpower your outfit.

One of my favorites at the VMA besides Beyonce was America’s sweetheart, Selena Gomez. Ditching her usual sweet and glamorous look for something more edgy and gothic, Selena wore a high-low black lace gown by designer Julien McDonald with a pair of gold high heel pumps and minimal women’s accessories. As if her relationship with pop star Justin Bieber wasn’t enough to drive the throes of young teenage girls crazy, Selena’s impeccable taste and style is already creating a strong buzz that Selena Gomez is one to watch.

We can all take our style into consideration after watching award ceremonies and take into account what it is we love about the stars’ outfits. Just because you’re not hitting the red carpet anytime soon doesn’t mean you can’t make some of these style hints and tips your own. So whether you want to change up your good-girl look like Selena with something more edgy, or go simplistic glam like Beyonce, the future of your fashion is in your hands!

Cunning Cutouts!

Friday, September 9th, 2011

For a fun twist on classic pieces of women’s fashion apparel, it’s time to take a cut. A little piece of material here and there have been snipped away in today’s hottest pieces of women’s clothing to create a cutout only your shoulders could appreciate. That’s right! It’s time to expose a soft set of shoulders with the newest cutout blouses and women’s dresses!

Strong forms of gender statements are being made more and more frequently in the world of women’s clothing. When we want to channel the inner feminine lady inside of us, we have a plethora of sweet pieces to choose from!

One piece of women’s fashion apparel with the most glamorous shoulder cutouts has to come in the form of a blouse. We’re not talking your average blouse you wear to work and then out for happy hour. We’re talking a new trend of satin material, or even in a pale sheer shade with an almost faint cutout of the shoulders only noticeable to those who have the good eye.

Shoulder cutouts on any pieces of clothing give your frame a softer touch and show the drape of your figure as your sleeves fall gently against your arm at the border of the cutout. Details such as beading or lace are now all over the place with these shoulder cutouts that are now a hot commodity in the world of women’s fashion apparel. (more…)
