Pink Daisies

Friday, November 18th, 2011

When we look at the colors that seem to permeate our fashion eyes, we see an odd wave of pastels and jewel-tones this season but we can all note that pink has made its presence in a very blush-worthy way this year thus far. Whether it was on a pair of flats or on an evening gown, pink has been one of the hottest colors in women’s apparel and it’s not about to stop now.

Even though summer has made its way back into hibernation, one of the most noted pieces that we saw all over the streets and beaches was a pair of pink denim shorts. But not a magenta or hot pink shade, but a light pink shade that’s just light enough to imitate a carnation and enough to pair it up wildly with any kind of grunge or rocker glam pieces to give you a Euro-chic look that’s fit for even the coldest of winters.

Although shorts are a staple piece of summer in women’s apparel, it doesn’t mean we need to tuck them away anytime soon. With the comeback of tights and sheer leggings, the doors have been opened for options galore with the pairings we can make being limitless! One of my favorite looks I’ve seen regularly this season with a pair of pink denim shorts has been to pair it up with a chunky gray sweater and some women’s boots. It’s a very Isabel Marant style with the color being balanced by the dark shades. (more…)

All About Hats

Monday, April 18th, 2011

Hats were previously worn out of necessity, but these days more and more people are wearing hats to look fashionable. There are many different types of hats, but as in any fashion accessory, there are general rules for rocking a hat to make sure it truly complements your outfit.

Make Me Chic is a known online retailer of top quality ankle boots but in fact, its selection of fashion items includes other accessories such as hats. Now, you can create that perfect rocker girl or cowboy chick look in just one stop. But before that, here are some tips on how to choose and wear a hat.

1. Choose the right hat depending on the shape of your face and your skin tone. If you have a long, oval face, do not wear a tall hat because your face will only look longer. On the contrary, a person with a round face should avoid small and short hats. Meanwhile, if you have rose red cheeks, a brown hat would be your best bet. Plus size women would do best to wear wide brimmed hat to match their silhouette.

2. Choose the right size. It should stay firmly on top of your head without giving you a headache or leaving a red mark across your forehead. Also, it shouldn’t come down or fall off whenever you nod or tilt your head.

3. Make sure your hair is hat-ready. You can either let your hair hang down or you can pull it back in a ponytail.

4. Tilt your hat. As a general rule, fedoras are worn down over the eyebrows while berets should be worn on one side only. Sun hats, on the other hand, are worn on the back of the head.

5. Match your hat to your outfit. When wearing sundress, choose a sun hat to match it. You can also use the color of your hat as a reference to which you will match your footwear. For example, if you are wearing a gray hat with a black ribbon wrapped around it, you can complement it by wearing a pair of black ankle boots.

Ankle Boots Vis-à-vis Other Kinds of Women’s Boots

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011

When it comes to boots, fashionable women all over the world have quite a number of options to choose from. One of the most popular today are ankle boots. Boots have gone from an “either-love-it-or-hate-it” footwear to a now certified must-have. Ankle boots are seen as a staple among many celebrities and you will hardly find any shoe store—whether online or offline—that is not carrying this trendy footwear. Ankle boots, in itself, have different kinds and subcategories within its styles. There are flat ankle boots, high heeled ankle boots and gladiator sandal ankle boots, among many others. Now, let us walk you through some of the other types of women’s boots and see how they differ from ankle boots.

1. Booties. Booties are generally distinguished by its shorter length in comparison to ankle boots. Its look is a combination of a shoe and a boot. Oftentimes, booties have a peep toe or cut out sections.

2. Mid calf boots. Like booties, mid calf boots are distinguished by its longer length as compared to ankle boots. And like ankle boots, mid calf boots are best worn with figure hugging jeans and shorter dresses and skirts.

3. Knee high boots. While there is no need to state the obvious difference between ankle boots and knee high boots, here is something that you probably didn’t know about these two kinds of boots—when it comes to choosing which one to wear with skirts, choose knee high boots for short (but not super short and tight) and mid-calf A-line skirts. Ankle boots can be worn with short skirts too, but it can be a little tricky, depending on the length of your skirt and the shape of your legs. However, when it comes to pants, any of these two types of boots will do.

Whether or not it’s a pair of ankle boots you choose, boots are definitely a must-have in any woman’s shoe collection. It opens up a lot of opportunities to look good and of course, feel good. Now, enough reading and more shopping! Check out MakeMeChic.com for a wide array of women’s boots.

Tips for Wearing Flat Ankle Boots

Monday, February 14th, 2011

Ankle boots are in a class of their own. There are platform ankle boots, gladiator sandal ankle boots, wedge ankle boots, double platform ankle boots, strappy ankle boots, pointy toe ankle boots, high-heeled ankle boots, and flat ankle boots. Among these, one of the trickiest to wear is perhaps the flat ankle boots. Ankle boots are normally more appreciated when worn with height so flat ankle boots are sometimes misconstrued as unfashionable. Well, here’s a news flash for flat ankle boots naysayers: Flat ankle boots are hot especially if you know how to wear them. If you think your flat booties are only for “dress down” occasions, think again. Here are certified fashionable ways to rock your flat ankle boots.

1. Wear it with pants. This is the easiest and most obvious way to wear ankle boots. When wearing it with wide-legged pants, just make sure it is not tucked in. If worn with tight pants, amp up the hotness factor by tucking in the bottom of the pants inside the boots. Ankle boots create the illusion of longer legs and this will be better achieved with a solid colored pair of pants or jeans.

2. Wear it with skirts. Short skirts, that is. As a general rule, ankle boots are not worn with long skirts. With a short skirt, however, your flat ankle boots will give the perfect contrast. If you do not feel like showing off too much skin, you can wear leggings of the same color as your boots. Or, if you are feeling fun and playful, ditch the leggings and wear a pair of short socks and let it peek a bit from your boots. Just make sure that the color is in contrast with your boots.

3. Wear it with legging or tights. If you can rock leggings or tights, flat ankle boots are your best bet. Again, remember to choose solid colors for your tights or leggings and make sure to get the cropped style. Otherwise, you’ll look short and stumpy. The key point to remember is to give enough distance between your ankle boots and your tights or leggings, or whatever it is you choose to pair it with.

Singing in the Rain!

Friday, January 28th, 2011

As you wake up from a good night’s sleep and pull back the curtains to see what ensemble the weather will permit, cold winds and wet drops of rain typically don’t appeal to the fashion forward woman planning her getup. But with the onset of showers and rainstorms all around, it’s only right that we pull out our fashionable women’s rubber boots which are only fit for a season like this!

Fashionably speaking, any pair of women’s boots is acceptable to wear while singing in the rain, but soggy socks and the paranoia of damaged suede is almost too much to bear while splashing in puddles. Being an avid women’s rubber boots collector, I have to say, the benefits to wearing these indestructible boots during threatening weather versus more delicate women’s boots are endless.

I’m a stickler for fashion and function, as we all would love to be, but the creative end of fashion doesn’t always allow for these two ideals to coexist in one shoe! But with the comeback of printed women’s rubber rain boots, whether in rain or shine, we can really have it all! Even though the wind may be a bit tad chilly, it’s always delightful to see some bare legs in the winter days with a fresh pair of women’s knee high boots wrapped around them.

To beat the dull colors and styles of the dreary winter weather, spunk it up a bit by wearing a denim skirt with the edges torn and or a pair of denim shorts along with your winter gear on top. Yes, it is definitely permitted to hang on to your summer clothes even though the heat has been long gone. Because any pair of short bottoms can work with a pair of women’s knee high boots whether they be the lovable rubber boots with patterns or plaid on it, or just a sleek pair of suede boots.
